Great communities don't happen by accident. They are shaped by people who understand their community, build relationships across industries and organizations, and are willing to step forward and lead.
Leadership Bay is a community leadership development program of the Bay County Chamber Foundation designed to prepare and connect current and emerging leaders throughout Bay County.
Through an immersive, months-long experience, participants go beyond the boardroom to explore the industries, institutions, challenges and opportunities that shape our community—while building relationships with a diverse group of professionals who share a commitment to Bay County's future.

Leadership Bay will show you parts of Bay County you've never seen.
Participants gain firsthand exposure to the organizations, industries and people that keep our community moving. Through site visits, conversations with decision-makers and hands-on experiences, each program day provides a deeper understanding of how different parts of Bay County connect.
The result is more than knowledge.
It's perspective—and perspective makes better leaders.
The Leadership Bay Experience
Leadership Bay brings participants out into the community for an immersive look at the forces shaping Bay County today and the opportunities that will define its future.
Throughout the program, participants explore areas such as:
Business & Economic Development
Understand the industries, employers and investments driving Bay County's economy.
Government & Civic Leadership
Meet local leaders and gain a better understanding of how decisions are made and how those decisions affect the community.
Military & Defense
Explore the extraordinary relationship between Bay County and the military missions, installations and service members that call our community home.
Education & Workforce
Learn how schools, higher education, workforce development and employers are preparing people for the opportunities ahead.
Healthcare & Human Services
See how organizations throughout Bay County address the health and human needs of our community.
Infrastructure & Public Safety
Gain insight into the systems, services and people responsible for keeping Bay County connected, functioning and safe.
Arts, Culture & Quality of Life
Discover the organizations and amenities that contribute to the character of our community and make Bay County a place people want to call home.
Leadership Is More Than a Title
Leadership Bay isn't designed to teach leadership from a textbook.
It's designed to expand the way you think about leadership.
Participants hear different perspectives, encounter issues outside their own industries and develop a broader understanding of how decisions in one part of the community can affect another.
Along the way, you'll have opportunities to strengthen skills in:
- Communication and collaboration
- Community awareness
- Relationship building
- Problem-solving and critical thinking
- Civic engagement
- Leading across organizations and industries
You'll leave with a better understanding not only of how Bay County works, but where your own leadership can make a difference.
Build Relationships That Last Beyond the Program
Your Class Is Just the Beginning.
One of the most valuable parts of Leadership Bay is the people sitting beside you.
Each class brings together professionals from different businesses, industries, organizations and backgrounds. Over the course of the program, those introductions become relationships—and those relationships often continue long after graduation.
Leadership Bay alumni can be found throughout Bay County's businesses, nonprofit organizations, government, education, healthcare and civic institutions.
When you complete Leadership Bay, you're not simply graduating from a program.
You're joining a network of community leaders.
Put Leadership Into Action
Learning about the community is only part of the experience.
Leadership Bay encourages participants to take what they learn and put it to work—whether that means becoming more involved in a community organization, serving on a board, mentoring others, taking on greater responsibility within their organization or simply becoming a more informed and engaged community leader.
Because the ultimate measure of Leadership Bay isn't what happens during the program.
It's what participants do afterward.
Who Should Apply?
Leadership Bay is designed for current and emerging leaders who want to deepen their understanding of Bay County and become more engaged in its future.
The program is a strong fit for professionals who:
- Want to become more involved in Bay County.
- Are stepping into greater leadership responsibilities.
- Want to expand their professional and community network.
- Have recently relocated to the area and want to understand the community more quickly.
- Have lived here for years but want a deeper understanding of how Bay County works.
- Want to connect their organization with the broader community.
- Are interested in future board, civic or community leadership opportunities.
Participants don't need to have a particular job title or already consider themselves a community leader.
Leadership potential, curiosity and a willingness to engage matter more than the title on your business card.
The Commitment
Leadership Bay is an immersive experience, and participation requires a meaningful commitment from both the participant and their employer.
Participants are expected to attend scheduled program days, actively engage with their classmates and community hosts, and participate fully throughout the program.
That commitment is part of what makes the experience valuable.

Leadership Bay — Steering Committee
Leadership Behind Leadership Bay
Each Leadership Bay class is supported by a Steering Committee of Leadership Bay alumni and community leaders who help guide the program and create the experiences that make each class unique.
Steering Committee members work with the Bay County Chamber Foundation to help plan and coordinate program days, connect participants with community leaders and organizations, and provide opportunities for the class to gain an inside look at the businesses, institutions and issues shaping Bay County.
Their involvement also creates an important connection between Leadership Bay's alumni network and its newest class of leaders.
Serve on the Leadership Bay Steering Committee
For Leadership Bay graduates, serving on the Steering Committee is an opportunity to stay involved, strengthen the program for future classes and continue investing in leadership throughout Bay County.
Steering Committee members may assist with:
- Planning and coordinating Leadership Bay program days
- Identifying speakers, hosts and community partners
- Creating meaningful site visits and hands-on experiences
- Supporting and connecting with current class members
- Helping ensure the program continues to reflect the opportunities and issues shaping Bay County
