GCSC Visual and Performing Arts Presents “Blood Wedding” by Federico García Lorca

November 5, 2023 @ 2:30 pm 4:30 pm

Gulf Coast State College’s Visual and Performing Arts is excited to announce its upcoming presentation of the classic play ‘Blood Wedding’ (Spanish: Bodas de Sangre) by Spanish playwright Federico García Lorca, translated by Lillian Groag.

Set in mystical rural Spain at the turn of the century, ‘Blood Wedding’ revolves around the merging of two families as they unite to arrange a marriage. While the surface shows joy and celebration, the unfolding narrative takes a tragic turn as a complex love triangle is revealed.

Originally produced in 1933, this timeless masterpiece explores profound themes such as the unbreakable ties of family and the far-reaching consequences of violence—themes that continue to resonate with audiences today.
