Gulf Coast State College Visual and Performing Arts Presents Same Old Story

Community Event, gcsc

The Gulf Coast State College Visual & Performing Arts Division presents Same Old Story by the Body Narrative Collective.

The Same Old Story exhibition utilizes lore from the 19th century tale of Henny Penny as a starting point – a tale that shows up around the globe and throughout history in various iterations. Every offering in the Same Old Story exhibition is an examination, reflection, or contemplation of some larger issue plaguing our world: climate change, loneliness and isolation, equity, consumerism and waste, artificial intelligence, or whatever issue the individual artist might feel pulled toward.

Pavel Amromin, Jill Foote-Hutton, Magda Gluszek, Tammy Marinuzzi, Keith Smith, and Meghan Sullivan are the artists that make up the Body Narrative Collective. The collective formed in 2019 as a group of artists who use ceramics as the primary medium and whose work often employs narrative as a vehicle for expression. The group continued to meet through the pandemic encouraging each other in their practices, supporting each other through life’s challenges and seeking opportunities to work together. Naturally, they leaned on each other through the recent social, political, and economic upheavals. As a group of storytellers, they eventually looked to the history of folklore for parallels and assurance that the past three years are not unprecedented.
