GCSC VPA Presents “Asylum” Posters by Erin Wright
November 4 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Gulf Coast State College Visual & Performing Arts Division presents “Asylum,” posters by Erin Wright.
Erin Wright has been making posters for the better part of forty years. Trained as a graphic designer, he was always more attracted to the non-commercial possibilities of the discipline. Specifically, the poster as an artform that conveys social meaning. The posters in the exhibit are executed in a variety of styles, and cover a wide range of topics. What they all have in common is a point of view and the ability to engage the viewer.
Erin Wright is the Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He earned his B.F.A. from Colorado State University, and his M.F.A. from the University of Arizona. Erin has participated in more than 90 international exhibitions in 22 countries. His posters are in several collections including the Robert Irwin archive at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles; Fourth Block International Triennial of Eco Posters in Kharkov, Ukraine; and The International Poster Collection at Colorado State University. He is the co-founder of “Posters Without Borders”, a biennial international invitational poster exhibition.
