2022 Martin Luther King, Jr. Festival
January 17 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Acure and the City of Lynn Haven will celebrate Martin Luther King Day of Service
On January 17,2022 at Sharon Sheffield Park, the national Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day of Service, ACURE and the City of Lynn Haven will again partner to celebrate the 27th anniversary of the official commemoration of the civil-rights leader’s life and legacy. In 1994, Congress passed legislation that established MLK Day as the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities — a “day on, not day off.”
ACURE will not be having their annual memorial march, although it has been a tradition for upwards of 33 years. Myron Hines, of ACURE, “…thank[s] the community for helping us make the festival a fun and entertaining experience over the years.”
The event will bring food, crafts and entertainment together in one place, for the purpose of raising monies for scholarships. These scholarships, according to Mr. Gregory Hines, “are offered to students, regardless of race, who meet certain GPA requirements.”
This event is a true reflection of enacting the teachings of Dr. King. The ACURE organization is an example of how the United States of America strives to move beyond the marginalization of populations and their societies, by making its scholarships available to any student – based on their merit and their scholastic standings! Moving our community away from marginalization, and towards unification and operating as one people, under God. ACURE is accepting vendor applications for this event.
Dr. King worked tirelessly to build a society that values the worth and dignity of every human being. He believed in challenging America to live up to the ideals of liberty and justice for all enshrined in our Constitution. He also recognized the power of service to build communities not just materially, but also socially. Dr. King’s steadfast commitment to be the voice of change here, and around the world, speaks to his passion in advocating for the disadvantaged, victims of injustice, and the impoverished.
