Held in May, the purpose of the Tourism Appreciation Month, otherwise known as TAM, is to celebrate Bay County’s number one industry: Tourism. Officials with the Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau say Bay County is a place where visitors can choose from a wide range of activities and amenities to make their vacation personal to them during any time of the year. Panama City Beach has 27 miles of sugar white beaches that stretches along the Gulf of Mexico which offers shoreline activities such as volleyball, boating, snorkeling and more. Non-summer attractions include ecotourism such as biking and hiking, shopping in one of the numerous outlets, restaurants, nightlife, amusement parks, concerts and more.
Tripadvisor.com ranked Panama City Beach #5 in the US for top 25 beaches in 2017 stating, “Best time to go: year-around.” Condenasttraveler.com says that it’s the “best place to experience Florida’s wildlife.” And SportsEvents magazine announced that Panama City Beach made its 2017 list “Top Sports Vacation Spots,” with other locations on the list being spread out across the country.
Because of Bay County’s assets for tourist and the economic impact tourism plays on the local economy, The Bay County Chamber of Commerce partners with local businesses to celebrate the industry through local events. It is our hope visitors and residents alike learn more about the history of tourism in Bay County during this month and take pride in its value to the area.
