How to do Business with the Government Seminar

Landing deals with the government can sometimes be a daunting task. There is tons of paperwork and understanding the ever changing needs of the government can sometimes seem impossible. At the How to do Business with the Government Seminar, John DiGiacomo will teach you how to think like the government and help you learn their needs; how to identify your customers and pick the businesses that could use your product or service; and, finally, teach you how to get your business registered with the primary database of government versed and suppliers.

This Seminar will cost $149 for Chamber Members and $199 for Future Members. Lunch and all materials are included. Please note cancellations after September 21, 2018 will be invoiced.

Meet John

John DiGiacomo is currently working for the Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida College of Business, located in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. He is the Government Contracting Specialist and helps businesses to market to the Federal, State and local government agencies. He has started there in April of 2016 and covers from Pensacola to Panama City. Since he started he was helped his clients receive over $3.6 million in awards.

John retired as the Director of the Illinois Procurement Technical Assistance Center at Rock Valley College, (PTAC) in Rockford, Illinois in 2014. He started with the center in 1986 when there were only 12 clients. By the end of his tenure there he counseled and assisted over 400 companies from 13 counties in Northwestern Illinois. The PTAC offers a variety of services to help companies do business with the government at the federal, state and local levels. The center’s clients have received over $4.4 Billion in contract awards.  

Before joining the PTAC, John worked as an independent consultant dealing with both domestic and international companies doing business with the federal government, resulting in more than $428 million in contract awards in 1980s dollars. To keep his clients informed, he published a quarterly newsletter and wrote articles about government contracting. His experience includes public relations and speaking, marketing, new product development and grant writing. While employed by a Rockford based HMO, John brought over $1.4 million in federal grant money to the organization.

John also has the hands-on experience of a small business owner. He owned a residential and commercial furniture and design store, with annual sales of $1 million.

Achievements

John is a member of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) and is a 25-year member. He served on the local Rockford Chapter’s Small Business Committee and Membership Committee.

Through membership in the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (APTAC) – formerly AGMAS – he stays current on government acquisition trends. He is a Certified Contracting Assistance Specialist (through APTAC) and a Certified Business Specialist (CBS) through the Illinois Small Business Development Association of which he is also a member. He received the APTAC Betty McDonald Member Achievement Award in 2003 and the APTAC Outstanding Project Award in 2001.

John is co-author of the national award-winning book, “Win Government Contracts for Your Small Business” published by Wolters Kluwer, Inc. it is now in it’s fifth edition and no longer in print.  He also has written online classes for the Defense Acquisition University, in addition he was a writer for various magazines and journals like the Veteran Mag and the Fabricator, he has spoken at many government, commercial, workshops and conferences.
