March 13 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The Bay County Chamber of Commerce will hold their 6th Annual Block Party on Tuesday, March 13th from 5-7 p.m. in front of the Chamber building at 235 West 5th Street. This is the 4th year the Bed Races will be a part of the event. Hundreds of community businesses and residents are expected to attend the event as our Board of Directors serves them with food donated by Chamber Member restaurants.
Member businesses will race down 5th Street during the block party on a bed they constructed for a chance to win first, second, or third place prizes, among other prizes as well.
The event is free and open to the entire community. Grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, barbeque, drinks, activities for kids, live music featuring Southern Sunday and much more will featured at the block party.
This year, t-shirts will be given out in exchange for donations of athletic (tennis) shoes and packages of underwear and socks. These donations will be distributed to local students, pre-k through 12th grade, through the Junior League of Panama City’s (JLPC) Child Service Center (CSC). JLPC’s Child Service Center partners with Bay District Schools, and other local organizations, to provide school uniform orders to Bay County School Students who need assistance in obtaining school approved uniforms and hygiene items in order to attend school with confidence. Each Child Service Center order consists of two uniforms shirts, two pairs of pants or shorts for elementary students or one pair of pants/shorts for middle and high school students, one pair of athletic shoes, three pairs of socks, three sets of underwear, and one bag of hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant). Need is identified by counselors, teachers, parent liaisons in schools, and staff at other local organizations, and requests are submitted to our Child Service Center. The Bay District School Courier picks up completed orders each day from our CSC and delivers to local schools to expedite getting items to students in need. Our Child Service Center provides over 1,000 orders to students each school year. This school year alone, we have provided 911 orders so far to local students.
